How do I let an AI agent send LinkedIn messages and connection requests safely?

Short answer. Use AgentWeb's LinkedIn map on the user's own account, and keep a person in the loop. The agent finds the right people (list_people_at_company), reads each profile (get_profile), drafts the message, gets approval, then sends with start_conversation (1st-degree), send_inmail (outside the network) or send_connection_request. Actions run within LinkedIn's own limits, like the weekly invite quota and InMail credits.

Steps

  1. Connect your agent to AgentWeb and connect the user's LinkedIn once through the hosted login (agentweb_start_connection).
  2. Call get_me to get the user's own mailbox_urn, which the messaging actions need.
  3. Find people with search_companies, then list_people_at_company or search_people_at_company. Each row has the connection degree.
  4. Read each person with get_profile and get_profile_experience.
  5. Check for an existing thread with search_conversations. If there is one, reply with send_message.
  6. Draft the message and show the user the exact text and recipient. Wait for a yes.
  7. Send: start_conversation for 1st-degree connections, send_inmail for others (check verify_open_profile and get_inmail_credits first), or send_connection_request.
  8. Watch replies with list_conversations and get_conversation_messages.

Stay inside LinkedIn's limits

  • Connection requests count against the weekly invite quota. Agree a weekly number with the user that stays well inside it.
  • LinkedIn allows one unanswered InMail per recipient. A second fails with HTTP 422, and nothing is sent or charged.
  • Send one at a time, paced like a person. Don't run bulk blasts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a note to the connection request?

Not yet. As of Oct 20, 2026, send_connection_request takes only the profile URN. Connect first, then message once they accept.

Can the agent accept invitations?

Yes, with list_invitations, then approve_invitation or reject_invitation.
